A Pelican's Perch is the best value beach house on Emerald Isle. You essentially pay third row prices for a first row view. While not fancy, it is functional and very attractive. It has enough design surprises to keep the whimsical beach feeling going. It is brightly decorated and is light and airy. Although the spiral staircase was challenging for some members of our party, the outside staircases provided less demanding access to most parts of the home. Also the bottom apartment could be reached without any stairs at all. The location provided a neighborhood feel and we were able to ride our bikes without any traffic issues and to take the hop, skip and a jump walk to the beach in less than 5 minutes. The Jordan family will always remember our Labor Day 2012 Beach Bash.

We had stayed at the "Perch" as we call it before. It had been 16 years. We came back to it this year and it was just like coming home. It rained everyday we were there. We survived and had an enjoyable time. I have already reserved for next year. Mr Russell, the owner was in contact with us during our stay. He and Barbara made us feel that they really enjoy having folks enjoy their home.

Beautiful house, comfortable for a multi-generational vacation. Close to beach, recreation areas and wonderful restaurants. Included everything we needed to cook, read, watch movies, relax on the deck and play at the beach. Very reasonably priced.

We enjoyed our stay a 1-A Pelican Perch. It was our first time staying in this house and we were not disappointed. The house isn't necessarily fancy, but had recent updates...newer windows and sliding glass doors, ceiling fans...The house is in a very nice location with great beach access. I had an opportunity to meet 2 of the owners of the property and they were very friendly. If you're looking for a comfortable house with great access to the beach and a nice reasonable price...this is the place to stay.

This is cute little house. We traveled with family and friends. We had 3 toddlers among us. Not exactly a small child friendly house. But I read the reviews and knew that. We brought baby gates for the decks, which were a life/s sanity saver for us parents. The winding staircase is a little scary too. We had to move furniture around to block those off. The side yard is not a play yard. It looks like a great place for the kids to play, but beware, it is full of little cactus! There was plenty of space for everyone, however, the rooms are very small. The house is very "choppy". Kitchen is wonderfully stocked!!! Books are handy and great!!! I was expecting to have to walk a ways to get the beach since it is middle row, but to our pleasant surprise it is very very close! I would stay here again if only for the awesome beach access!

We have been to Emerald Isle seven summers and have always had a great vacation. This year the house was roomy and very well supplied. We have three children and grandparents that traveled with us and there was plenty of room to spread out. Great beach access. This was our favorite house so far!

We had a wonderful time. Only down fall was that we found roaches on the ground and main level. We did not see many but I guess even one is too many. Knowing full well that this will be taking care of we look forward to renting next year.

We choose a Pelican's Perch due to a few reasons. One, the price was right and the location was good. Secondly, the number of bedrooms was what we needed. Traveling with our family (myself, wife, 17 and two 14 year old boys) and another family (nephew and his wife, 9 year old boy, 2 year old girl, and 1 year old boy), we needed space. Along with good access to the beach. By having the house divided into three levels, we were pretty much able to have our own zones when needed and when we were all together, we fit well. The kitchen was of adequete size and stocked pretty well. Outside charcoal grill was very big and came with all the tools. The bedrooms on the main level (2 of them..2 twins and two doubles) were slighty small, but manageable. Our 17 year old took over the lower level bedroom and was very happy. Our nephew and his family took the upper level rooms. The ocean view from the main/upper levels were very nice. Access to the beach was out the driveway and to the left. Very manageable distance carrying or toting beach stuff. The driveway was a little steep, but to get the view, you have to have the height or be on the beach. Beach access was very nice as it is one of the few access points in Emerald Isle that is a wood deck and does not have steps at the street level and very few at the beach end. Very important points for those traveling with young ones or lots of stuff. Location on the island was great. Well within walking distance of Bogue Inlet Pier. We felt very comfortable with letting the teenage boys explore either by foot or bicycle. All of us in our group would come back to stay at this property. We got to meet the one of the owners (hint...there is a new water heater as of June 2011) due to a problem beyond his control. Very nice man and I felt like I had know him for years. Very good house at a great family beach!

Rental has a couple of design flaws that will keep me from staying there again. One major flaw is the upstairs entrance. Door opens into you as you are trying to carry in your luggage and things. This can be easily fixed for about $200 with a storm door that swings the other way. Decks and stairs look impressive but some aspects are not user friendly. Other than those issues, it is a nice house with plenty of room. Easy access to beach. Beach view from middle and top deck good. Great for large family with little children but little parking for such a large house. Property has some faults but a very nice place overall. It was also very clean and well-stocked.
