First time visitors to Emerald Isle/Indian Beach. Villa 1-I is beautiful (clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated, conveniently located to the beach/pool). Ocean view fm patio. We have vacationed at Marriott and Westin timeshare resorts, and this villa was just as nice--if not nicer. As far as the Grande Villa resort is concerned: complimentary towel & beach chairs were great, plenty of chairs at pool, small but sufficient exercise room, game room was a plus (I could keep an eye on my kids while working out). When we booked our vacation, Grande Villas was advertising on-site surfing lessons for kids and yoga/fitness classes. We were disappointed to find that they were no longer offering these when we arrived. (They do offer one fitness class on Saturday mornings.) We also felt that the pool side "cafe" had a very limited and overpriced menu. The grill (which was more like a George Foreman) was broken the day we tried to eat lunch at the pool. It was a small disappointment because we were expecting more of a poolside bar with mixed drinks, better menu, etc. None of this affected our vacation overall, but we did feel like we paid more than we have at resorts in the Caribbean and Hilton Head where more activities, menu and drink options, etc were offered. The trade off is a quieter, less crowded vacation. We did not bring our bikes and did not miss them because the bike paths in Indian Head are just designated lanes on the main road--not something I would have been comfortable doing with my 9 & 11 yr old. We drove to Fort Macon and were pleasantly surprised. Beaufort is a great historical town with cute restaurants and lots of interesting history. We also spent several hours at the NC aquarium--great aquarium--check out special activities through out the week (Shark Night, Pirate Night, etc.). There are several putt putt and go cart courses close by. Enough to do, but still low key. Easy check in/out.
