Question & Answer (Q & A) from Carteret County Shore Protection Office Post-Florence Beach Renourishment Project
Q: WILL THE CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT, NOISE, AND BEACH NOURISHMENT PROCESS IN GENERAL CAUSE ANY MAJOR DISRUPTIONS DURING OUR VISIT TO THE BEACH?
A - LIKELY NOT. The bulk of the bulldozers, lights, surveying equipment, etc. is confined to the narrow area where the slurry of sand and water is being pumped directly on to the beach. The pipe is extended as the nourishment fill progresses further down the beach, and will subsequently be dissembled and moved throughout the project. Also, sand bridges will be built over the pipeline stretch at a minimum of every few 100 feet and at every regional beach access point to enable residents and visitors to access the water. Thus, any direct disruption will only be for a day or two. Beach nourishment is a "24-7" operation (24 hours a day - seven days a week), so progress should be very quick. Great beach vacation
We stayed here in July 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic and found it very easy to socially distance in the neighborhood and the beaches. The house itself is nice and spacious, albeit if a little outdated in the kitchen and bathroom, although the kitchen had nice counters and a brand new sink. However, it was nice and clean and the AC is amazing! The views from this property as well as the very convenient beach access at two different entrances can not be beat from a 2nd row property! The beaches at the pointe are amazing and in my opinion it's the best spot to stay on the whole island. I was stationed at the Coast Guard station right behind this property back in the late 1990's, so Emerald Isle is special to me and I really enjoyed this week with my wife and two children. I'd like to say thank you to the owners of this property for making us feel right at home during our vacation. Two very nitpicky things I wanted to mention are that it would be wonderful to have curtains/black out curtains in the bedrooms as the sun was blaring in our faces by 5:45am and the kids didn't want to sleep in! The blinds are great, but black out curtains would be awesome. Also, the screened-in porch was wonderful, but would be even better if a ceiling fan was installed. It would help on the humid days.Overall, we loved the house and the location. The beach is wonderful at the Pointe and even in July we were able to socially distance with no problem what so ever. We'd love to come back soon and rent this house again!
